A Changed Life – The Most Powerful Request Ever Made

Today’s Reading: Psalms 51: 7-15

Today’s Verse: Create in me a clean heart, O God; and renew a right spirit within me. Psalms 51:10 KJV

Making someone over. It means improving them by working on or changing various parts.

In this passage King David has sincere regrets. He had committed adultery with Bethsheba. He had arranged for her husband’s death.

He recognized that he had sinned. What an unclean heart he had. He cried and prayed to God for mercy. To make a complete change in his life. Begging God to create in him a clean heart.

The renewing of his spirit meant he would have a sense of purpose. That he would have a spirit that was firm and unwavering in his devotion to God.

Sometimes we recognize it is time for a change. There will also be times when we get a “rude awakening.”

We must accept our situation. That there are things we need to ask the Lord to help us change.

We always can ask the Lord to make us over. To give us a fresh start.

In Jeremiah 18:1–6 KJV, God directs Jeremiah to observe the activities of the potter at his wheel.

The potter’s vessel becomes marred in his hands. He reforms it into another vessel as he pleases.

God’s message to Israel was a comparison of their relationship with Him to the potter and the clay.

It shows us God’s power to mold, shape, and change His plans for us, just as the potter reshapes the marred clay into a new form as he sees fit.

The prayer “Lord make me over” is a heartfelt request. We are asking God to bring about an internal change. Not to just cover up sins, but to cleanse and transform the inner man.

When we trust in God’s power, we acknowledge Him as the Divine Potter. The One who can take imperfect or even broken pieces and reshape them into something new and purposeful.

We can always look at these passages of Scriptures when we have a desire for a fresh start. When we know we have made mistakes or fallen short.

Seeking God’s grace to begin anew. To grow into the person God intends for us to be.

A WORD OF PRAYER

Father, so many times we have let You down. We know we need to make changes in our lives. Like David we ask that You create in us a clean heart. That You renew the right Spirit within us. We seek to follow Your Word. Thank You for forgiving our sins. Thank You for restoring us. We give You all the honor and praise.

In Jesus’ Name we pray, Amen
