Today’s Reading: Joshua 1:1-9
Today’s Verse: Have not I commanded thee? Be strong and of a good courage; be not afraid, neither be thou dismayed: for the LORD thy God is with thee whithersoever thou goest. Joshua 1:9 KJV
An anchor is a heavy object, attached to a rope or chain. It is used to hold fast a vessel to the sea bottom. It prevents the boat from drifting.
When someone is described as an anchor, it means they are a reliable source of support. Security for someone else. We can think of them like a boat’s anchor, They are there to help keep someone in place and hopefully from drifting.
As followers of Christ, God is our Spiritual Anchor. He is the One who keeps us steadfast and give us hope during the trials and storms of life.
After the death of Moses, God called Joshua to lead His people. He gave him anchors of promise he could rely on in troubled times.
The Lord told him, “There shall not any man be able to stand before thee all the days of thy life: as I was with Moses, so I will be with thee: I will not fail thee, nor forsake thee” (Joshua 1:5 KJV).
God also gave Joshua and His people the “Book of the Law” to study and observe (Joshua 1:7-8 KJV).
His command: “Be strong and of a good courage; be not afraid, neither be thou dismayed: for the LORD thy God is with thee whithersoever thou goest” (Joshua 1:9 KJV).
These were anchors that the Israelites could rely on as they faced many challenges.
Just like God promised to assist Joshua and His people, He will do the same for you and me.
When we feel the stress of the storm we learn the strength of the anchor.
In Him we have hope. Hope is also an anchor for our soul. He will keep our souls in the right place. We will overcome challenges and reach our dreams.
God will always safely hold us.
We learn the more we read the Word, we gain knowledge. The more we trust in God’s promises, our faith gets even stronger.
He is our Anchor. The One we must never let go of.
A WORD OF PRAYER
Father, there is a command, call, and a commission that You have placed on our lives. Duties that require us to be strong and very bold. Like Joshua we may have times of suffering. But the will of God and the commandments of the Father will always be our guide. Always our strength. We know we have an anchor that keeps our souls. We will remain steadfast and sure no matter what the situation is. We are grounded firm and deep in the Savior’s love. Thank You Savior for being the anchor in our lives.
In Jesus Name We Pray, Amen
