These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God; that ye may know that ye have eternal life, and that ye may believe on the name of the Son of God. 1 John 5:13 KJV
I was reading a devotional in which a new Christian confided to another believer that he was doubting his salvation.
He was telling him how yesterday he was filled with joy and though he would never be in the dark again.
But now it was all gone.
He thought something was wrong with himself.
The friend asked him, “have you ever passed through a tunnel.”
He had but did not see what that had to do with his situation.
The friend then asked him, “When you were in the gunnel, did you think the sun had been blotted out of the sky?”
He replied, “No, I knew the sun was still in the sky, even though I could not see it.”
The friends next question was, “Were you distressed when you were in the tunnel?”
Again he replied “No,” because he knew he would soon be out in the light again.
The friend said, “And did you get out?”
His reply, “Of course!”
The Christian then paused as he realized what this truth really meant.
God’s promises will always remain true no matter how we feel.
That we should always rest on His Word and not our feelings.
We all know our emotions are constantly changing.
They are affected by our daily happenings.
Those are the times when we have to remember what Christ has done for us and what the Bible says.
“These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God; that ye may know that ye have eternal life, and that ye may believe on the name of the Son of God” (1 John 5:13 KJV).
In this we know it is only right for us to keep our faith in the Savior.
Tunnels are only temporary, but our relationship with God is everlasting.
We must never doubt in the dark what the Father has shown us in the Light.
A WORD OF PRAYER
Father, we know there will be things that will test our faith. Days when it seems like we are going through a tunnel of darkness. You have told us that we can come to You with all our cares and concerns. Help us to remain steadfast in the Word. Our prayers will always be ones of submission to Your will. We are thankful that You are always there for us. You always keep us by your grace. Thank You Father.
In Jesus’ Name We Pray, Amen
