“Rood” – Great “Cross” Knowledge That Will Empower Your Life

Today’s Reading: 1 Peter 2:18-25 / Colossians 1:15-20

Today’s Verse: Who his own self bare our sins in his own body on the tree, that we, being dead to sins, should live unto righteousness: by whose stripes ye were healed. 1 Peter 2:24 KJV

The “Dream of the Rood” is an English poem.

I learned about it while reading a daily devotional.

I googled it and watched the video.

It was very enlightening.

I learns that the Old-English word “Rood” means “Cross.”

In the poem the man dreams that he meets the tree that was cut down and formed into a cross. The cross in which Jesus was crucified.

The Rood describes what it experienced to the dreaming man.

When the tree learned that it was to be used to kill Jesus, it rejected the idea of being used this way.

How Christ enlisted the help of the tree to provide redemption for all who would believe.

At the end, the man summarizes what his faith experienced. He prayed and was filled with hope. Desiring that he keeps the protection of the “rood.”

We have read that in the Garden of Eden, a tree was the source of the forbidden fruit.

The one that our spiritual parents tasted and caused sin to enter the human race.

And the passage in which he Son of God shed His blood as the ultimate sacrifice for all of mankind’s sins.

He was nailed to a tree on our behalf.

He “[bore] our sins in his own body on the tree, that we, being dead to sins, should live unto righteousness: by whose stripes ye were healed” (1 Peter 2:24 KJV).

Acknowledging that Christ died on the cross for us shows we put our trust in Him.

That we know He is the source of our salvation.

Since the crucifixion, the cross has become an amazing symbol that represents the sacrificial death of the Savior. The symbol of our deliverance from sin and death.

The Savior’s dying on the cross is the greatest evidence that we have concerning the evidence of God’s love for us.

Christ gave His life on the tree for our salvation.

A WORD OF PRAYER

Savior, the cross has great meaning in our lives. It is a reminder of the love You have for us. We would be lost without You. With our whole hearts, we give You praise. Testifying of all You have done in our lives. Thank You for giving Yourself for us in love. Graning us a chance to live a glorious life through You.

In Jesus Name We Pray, Amen
