Today’s Reading: Psalms 19:7-14
Today’s Verse: The fear of the LORD is clean, enduring for ever: the judgments of the LORD are true and righteous altogether. More to be desired are they than gold, yea, than much fine gold: sweeter also than honey and the honeycomb. Psalms 19:9-10 KJV
In the good old days there was a movie with a character named Mary Poppins.
Her saying of “just a spoonful of sugar makes the medicine go down in a most delightful way” had meaning. It showed us the positive side of what we consider negative.
In our lives we want to have people around us with a vision for a future that is joyful. That is positive.
In this passage David wrote a song that expressed a similar truth.
He said, “the judgments of the LORD are true and righteous altogether. More to be desired are they than gold, yea, than much fine gold: sweeter also than honey and the honeycomb” (Psalms 19:9-10 KJV).
Not often do we hear that truth is sweet.
More often we hear that it is bitter and hard to swallow.
Truth is really so much more than a medicine to treat what is wrong.
It will prevent sin from becoming a disease in our lives.
We should look at it as a gourmet meal that is presented as a delicious delight. One that gives us a desire to “taste and see that the LORD is good” Knowing that “blessed is the man that trusteth in him” (Psalms 34:8 KJV)).
Jesus is the “Bread of Life” (John 6:35 KJV). He is the ultimate source of spiritual nourishment. He offers eternal life and strength to all believers.
His undying love for us is the sweetest, most wonderful taste to fill our hearts. It will always fill those who hunger for both physical and spiritual nourishment in their life.
The word of God, when received by faith, is more precious than gold. It is sweet to the soul. It is sweeter than honey.
The more we hunger and thirst for Him, our hearts will desire to let others know about Him.
To sing the song, “Jesus is the sweetest name I know” everywhere we go. And that His truth endures forever.
A WORD OF PRAYER
Savior, we know that Your judgments are always true and righteous. That they are sweeter than honey and the honeycomb. Everything You do in our lives is for our good. That is why we love You so. Your name is the sweetest name we know. We are thankful that Your love endures forever. Thank You for being in our lives.
