Today’s Reading: Joel 2:9-15
Today’s Verses: “Therefore also now, saith the LORD, turn ye even to me with all your heart, and with fasting, and with weeping, and with mourning:” Joel 2:12 KJV
What is Spiritual Fasting?
It means you do not eat food at certain times. It is voluntary. We can choose not to engage in certain activities. We can stay away from social media and other distractions.
Fasting deepens our connection with God. It helps us to focus on spiritual matters.
It humbles us. It helps us to seek His guidance. To show repentance. To help us grow in faith.
This verse calls for the people of Judah to return to the Lord with all their heart. They were to do it with fasting, weeping and mourning. This would show that there was genuine, inward repentance. It would be greater than an outward display of the rendering of their garments.
It was a call that would restore a broken relationship with God. It would show that they had a change of heart. They surrendered to Him.
To this day, the Lord declares that we should return to Him with all our heart. To do it with fasting, weeping and mourning (Joel 2:12-17 KJV).
He want us to return to God through fasting and repentance.
We do it because we know who God is. We know what He stands for.
He is never far off; He never hides Himself from us.
He is a merciful and gracious God. Slow to anger and overflowing with steadfast love.
When we return to Him with all our heart, we will find hope. One that God will turn from His judgement. We want Him to leave us with a blessing.
A WORD OF PRAYER
Father, help us to resist temptation. Keep us from sin in every way. We know that by the power of Your Spirit, we can do it. Help us to stay steadfast in Your ways. We want to return to You with fasting, weeping and mourning. We want to return to You with all our hearts.
In Jesus Name We Pray, Amen
