Today’s Reading: Isaiah 46:5-13
Today’s Verse: Remember the former things of old: for I am God, and there is none else; I am God, and there is none like me. Isaiah 46:9 KJV
To remember. This means we are able to bring to mind and awareness of someone on something. It is something that we have seen, known, or experienced in the past.
Why does God command us to remember?
He does it because He knows better than we do how forgetful we are. That we need to be reminded of who He is. A need to be reminded of what He has done.
In today’s verse, He is commanding us to remember.
It is a command that is as forceful as any other command we can find in Scripture.
Remembering is an active choice. Without us daily choosing to seek and remember the Word, we will forget.
“Among the gods there is none like unto thee, O Lord; neither are there any works like unto thy works” (Psalms 86:8 KJV).
God is the only true God. Unlike any other thing man chooses to worship, He alone has the power to plan and bring about His purposes. He is the only One who can do it from the beginning to the end.
“Forasmuch as there is none like unto thee, O LORD; thou art great, and thy name is great in might” (Jeremiah 10:6 KJV).
The salvation of a sinner begins with a humble heart. One that is filled with deep sorrow for their sins. A sorrow that can bring true repentance. A true change to our lives.
A heart that trembles at God’s Word. Seeking His forgiveness. Submitting to His will, rather than pursuing our own desires. It finds faith in His mercy.
We have guaranteed promises from Him. They come when we are obedient to the Word.
This verse is a call for each of us to remember God’s past acts and faithfulness.
Every one of them is evidence of His unique and sovereign power.
A WORD OF PRAYER
Father, we know from where You have brought us. We had hearts that were filled with dark sorrows, humility, and guilt feelings. We seek Your forgiveness. There is none like You. No one else can touch our hearts like You do. We come before You with a heart that is ready to obey Your Word. Thank You for reminding us that, You are God. That there is no one else. That there is none like You. You are the only true and living God to abide in our lives. Without You, we would fail. Thank You for all You do for us.
In Jesus’ Name we pray, Amen
