A Helping Hand: One of the Greatest Gifts Exhibited

Today’s Reading: Exodus 17:8-15

Today’s Verse: But Moses’ hands were heavy; and they took a stone, and put it under him, and he sat thereon; and Aaron and Hur stayed up his hands, the one on the one side, and the other on the other side; and his hands were steady until the going down of the sun. Exodus 17:12 KJV

There are a number of stories in the Bible that really catch our attention.

They make us stop and wonder with amazement of all the things that God has done.

The many who have played a role in helping to lead God’s people to victory.

Moses leading God’s people into the Promised Land is one of them.

Amalek and his people attacked them along the way.

We are not told exactly how Moses knew to go to the top of the hill and hold God’s staff (Exodus 17:8-15 KJV). But we know God was always leading and guiding him.

And as we continue to read, we learn that when Moses raised his hands, the Israelites would win the battle. But every time he lowered them; the Amalekites would win.

So, when Moses got tired, his brother Aaron and another man, Hur, would hold his arms up. They held them steady until sunset. In the end, the Israelites would triumph over the Amalekites.

We hear a great deal about Moses and Aaron. But Hur also played a vital role in Israel’s history.

In this passage, Hur is a prime example of giving help to others. He is one of many unseen heroes.

The ones that are often overlooked. The ones that give support and encouragement to others.

The blessing comes in knowing that the Lord acknowledges everything we do.

He sees all who intercedes daily for others in prayer.

He sees the person that helps in the upkeep of their church each Sunday after service.

He even sees the neighbor who reaches out with a word of encouragement.

We all have a place in the ministry. There is something we all can do. No matter how great or how small.

We should never be scared to ask for help or of giving help to others.

Never worrying about who knows what we have done.

It is great to acknowledge and thank the unseen heroes that help us.

But if we do not, know that God will always see unseen heroes. He makes notes of everything we do.

His knowledge of our obedience to His Word is what really matters.

A WORD OF PRAYER

Father, there is no doubt that all of us like to be recognized for the things we have done. But the knowledge that You see it all and has taken note of it is of more importance. Thank You for creating us and gifting us in our own unique ways. Giving us the ability to faithfully help and serve others. To always appreciate those You have sent to help us. For always giving everything we need. For all the victories we have won. We cannot make it without You.

In Jesus Name We Pray, Amen
