Read: Colossians 3:6-12 / Ephesians 4:17-25
Lie not one to another, seeing that ye have put off the old man with his deeds. Colossians 3:9 KJV
In the Bible, to mortify something is to put it to death.
To put to death anything that inclines us to do the things of the world.
Lying is just one of them.
We know that it is of Satan, “for he is a liar, and the father of it” (John 8:44 KJV).
That is why we are to be careful of the words we speak and the things we do.
Before giving our lives to Christ, we could find ourselves in many situations.
Ones that caused us not to tell the truth.
Then things changed and we gave our lives to Christ.
The temptation to lie could still try to rise.
Those are the times to remember He has told us, “Lie not one to another, seeing that ye have put off the old man with his deeds” (Colossians 3:9 KJV).
We were made new.
We are also reminded in Ephesians 4:21-25 KJV that, “the truth is in Jesus.”
Another reminder that since we have proclaimed to have given our lives to Him, “That [we have] put off [those things] concerning the former conversation [of] the old man.”
We are told to “be renewed in the spirit of [our] mind.”
To “put on the new man, which after God is created in righteousness and true holiness.”
“Wherefore putting away lying, speak every man truth with his neighbour: for we are members one of another.”
When we do wrong, take the time to acknowledge it and ask for forgiveness.
When we do this, we are showing that we are walking with the Lord.
That we have put ourselves back under His wise counsel and care.
A WORD OF PRAYER
Father, we know that You would never lie to us. Each day give us the strength we need to defeat the temptation to lie. To know that if we sin, we can quickly confess it and ask for forgiveness. We know that You are the Light of the world. That our coming to You is far greater than living in darkness. Help us to continue to walk in Your ways.
