Today’s Reading: Hebrews 4:1-11
Today’s Verse: Let us therefore fear, lest, a promise being left us of entering into his rest, any of you should seem to come short of it. Hebrews 4:1 KJV
Deadline: the date or time that something must be completed.
It is the last point by which a task or project is expected to be finished.
At work or school, we know that most projects have deadlines.
There will be some who meet the deadline and there will be others that do not.
They give reasons for not taking care of business, but it is too late.
We can miss getting good grades. We could miss getting a well-paying job or assignment.
A lot can be lost when deadlines are not met.
The same can be said regarding our Spiritual lives.
But it is far more serious.
As the gospel song says, “Don’t let Him catch you with your work undone.”
“Work undone” for a believer has a more permanent final ending. One that comes at the end of life.
It deals with whether or not we have taken care of business with God about our sins.
The author of Hebrews has warned us to make sure we do not come short.
He said, “Let us therefore fear, lest, a promise being left us of entering into his rest, any of you should seem to come short of it” (Hebrews 4:1 KJV).
Meaning if we die without having put or faith in Jesus as Savior, we face an eternity without Him.
All the privileges we have under the gospel, are greater than any had under the law of Moses.
It would be a terrible moment to stand before the Savior and hear Him say, “I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity” (Matthew 7:23 KJV).
Faith in the hearer is the life found in the Word.
None of us want to face the painful consequence of not living according to it.
We want to live right, so we may have a clear entrance into the kingdom of God.
Just as God finished His work, and then rested from it, so He will cause those who believe, to finish their work, and then to enjoy their rest.
It is not too late. We want to be ready when He comes.
The Savior is still freely offering salvation and forgiveness through Him.
He freely gives it to all who will trust and believe in Him.
A WORD OF PRAYER
Father, Calvary revealed the seriousness of our sins. It revealed the greatness of Your love for us. You have always declared how we can find rest through You. Your love is the real happiness to our souls. We have faith in Your promises. We know that they come through Jesus Christ. Your loving Son. The One who died for our sins. He is the only way for us to enter into eternal rest with You. Thank You for forgiving our sins. Thank You for saving our souls. Thank You for leading us on the path of righteousness. You are the Faithful One. We will love You forevermore.
In Jesus Name We Pray, Amen
