Today’s Reading: Psalms 125
Today’s Verse: “As the mountains are round about Jerusalem, so the LORD is round about his people from henceforth even for ever.” Psalms 125:2 KJV
“Jesus Be A Fence Around Me.”
I woke up this morning with this song on my mind.
For those who may not know it, the lyrics say:
“Jesus be a fence all around me every day
Jesus, I want You to protect me as I travel along the way
I know You can, yes, Lord, I know You will, yes, Lord
Fight my battle, yes, Lord, if I keep still, yes, Lord
Lord, be a fence all around me every day.”
“Sometimes the way get so rough y’all and the nights are so long
In my hour of weakness, that old enemy tries to steal my soul
But when he comes like a flood to surround me
My God will step in and a standard he’ll raise
Oh, Lord, be a fence all around me every day.”
The Bible refers to this as a ‘Song of Degrees’ or a ‘Song of Ascents.’
These songs represent the progression of a spiritual journey. One that is moving us from a state of distress to one that is trusting in God’s presence.
Jewish pilgrims sang special songs. They sang them while traveling to Jerusalem for the yearly festivals.
They knew they had constant protection. Jerusalem was surrounded by mountains. They acted as a permanent and natural barrier. However, God ensured a better protection. He performed them on three levels: spiritual, emotional, and physical.
“The LORD is round about his people from henceforth even for ever” (Psalms 125:2 KJV). He offers lasting protection, not just a short-term guarantee. His assurance of safety is permanent.
His promises will bring confidence to all who believe. We find peace and rest. It removes the feelings of anxiety, even in difficult times.
Focusing on Him makes us secure and unshakeable.
We can request protection, guidance, and courage each day to face challenges.
We have the assurance of God’s care. That He will be with us in times of hardship. When we find ourselves facing difficult circumstances.
It is a blessing to know that He will always be there for us.
A WORD OF PRAYER
Father as the song says, “This is my prayer Lord that I pray each and every day. That You would guide my footsteps lest I stumble and stray. Lord, I need You to direct me all the way long. Oh, Lord, be a fence all around me every day.” We thank You for a daily protection. For Your guidance. For helping fight and win the battles we face. We cannot thank You enough!
