Today’s Reading: 2 Corinthians 9:6-15 / Mark 6:7-12
Today’s Verse: And God is able to make all grace abound toward you; that ye, always having all sufficiency in all things, may abound to every good work.
2 Corinthians 9:8 KJV
Think about this.
You are going on a trip without any luggage.
You have no basic necessities. No change of clothing, No money or credit cards.
This not only sounds unwise but also terrifying.
Imagine how the twelve disciples felt when that was exactly what Jesus told them to do when they went out on their first mission to preach and heal.
He “commanded them that they should take nothing for their journey, save a staff only; no scrip, no bread, no money in their purse: [to] be shod with sandals; and not put on two coats” (Mark 6-8-9 KJV).
We know they probably felt this was a lot to ask of them.
We would probably feel the same way.
But they were able to complete the work. We can too.
The Scriptures tells us that later on when Jesus was preparing them for their work after He was gone, He said unto His disciples this.
“He said unto them, When I sent you without purse, and scrip, and shoes, lacked ye any thing? And they said, Nothing.”
“Then said he unto them, But now, he that hath a purse, let him take it, and likewise his scrip: and he that hath no sword, let him sell his garment, and buy one” (Luke 22:35-36 KJV).
From the first trip, the disciples had everything they needed to carry out what God had called them to do.
Trusting God to supply their needs was the point He was making.
A point that still holds true to this day.
“God is able to make all grace abound toward [us]; that ye, always having all sufficiency in all things, may abound to every good work” (2 Corinthians 9:8 KJV).
Are we trusting God to supply our needs? Are we taking personal responsibility and planning?
He can make it where we have enough in all things.
He can help us to be content with what we have.
Giving us not only enough for ourselves, but also the ability to help supply the wants of others.
When we subject ourselves to the gospel, we acknowledge our calling.
Giving praise and glory to God.
Never forgetting there is a blessed seed to be sown in someone’s life.
That you are the one chosen to help water it.
A WORD OF PRAYER
Father, we know that You have a purpose for our lives. We have faith that You will give us what we need to conduct Your work. May we all endeavor to copy the example of Christ. Being unwearied in doing good and deeming it more blessed to give than to receive. You are good and all You do is good. Thank You for helping us as we pray, plan, and put our trust in You. We know everything done in Your way will never want for anything.
In Jesus Name We Pray, Amen
