To Know What Love Means

He saith unto him the third time, Simon, son of Jonas, lovest thou me? Peter was grieved because he said unto him the third time, Lovest thou me? And he said unto him, Lord, thou knowest all things; thou knowest that I love thee. Jesus saith unto him, Feed my sheep. John 21:17 KJV

Love is an emotion.

It is a feeling of affection, compassion, care, and self-sacrifice.

It is shown by someone who is truly concerned about the well-being of another person.

The Lord desires that we show each other love.

The same type of love He showed by sacrificing His life for us all.

When we fail to truly show love one to another, we have sinned in the eyes of the Lord.

A sin that should lead us to a place of deep conviction.

After the Lord’s death and resurrection, Simon Peter, known as Peter, who had denied the Lord three times, was setting out to do some fishing, along with some other fishermen.

The Lord appeared and questioned Peter regarding his love for Him.

Each time Peter was questioned, the Lord was giving him a chance to declare his love for Him.

We must not be surprised to have our sincerity called into question.

With each declaration, the Lord was giving Peter a charge to care for His people (vv. 15-17).

When it was all said and done, Peter was morally convicted to do what was right, and reject that which is wrong.

Because of God’s grace, Peter was able to play a key role in building the church and ultimately gave his life to Christ.

Truth be told, a biography of any one of our lives could begin with a section of our failures and defeats.

But, just like Peter, it could have an ending that shows our falls and mistakes made us humbler and more watchful.

The Lord is always giving us a chance to acknowledge our past mistakes and to begin to live according to His will.

Showing that God’s grace always allows for a different outcome.

That by His grace we can be redeemed and transformed.

Allowing us to be changed from a sinner to a saint.

Changed by the Good Shepherd to feed His sheep.

One to be used to spread the Word and show the same love to others.

We should all take a moment and reflect on the ways we have experienced God’s transforming grace.

A WORD OF PRAYER

Father, we know that no one can be qualified to feed the sheep and lambs of Christ, who does not love the good Shepherd. That we must love Him more than any earthly advantage or object. Thank You for the ability to be redeemed and transformed to do Your will.

In Jesus Name We Pray, Amen
