Don’t Let Greed Overtake You

And he said unto them, Take heed, and beware of covetousness: for a man’s life consisteth not in the abundance of the things which he possesseth.
Luke 12:15 KJV

A covetous person has a strong desire for wealth.

A desire to possess something of their own or someone else’s.

It is a sin that can do us more harm than good.

Something we constantly need to be warned against.

Reminding ourselves that happiness and comfort do not depend on the wealth of this world.

That the things of the world will not satisfy the desires of our soul.

Social media so often encourages us to compare ourselves to others, inspiring covetousness and insecurity.

 How do we stop covetousness?

The antidote is contentment.

Contentment has nothing to do with what we have or do not have, it’s a mindset.

A way of thinking, a spiritual discipline (Hebrews 13:5).

We must confess and repent of our covetous hearts.

Knowing that our Riches are in Christ.

There are many verses in the Bible that warns us against covetousness.

How the Lord gave His life for us, so we would have everything we need.

All the more reason for us to resist the life that has us to believe that the more we possess the more happier and secure we will be.

Think about it.

The Lord is providing us with everything we need while here on earth.

But there is an even greater treasure that awaits us in Heaven.

Greater than any treasure we leave behind.

A WORD OF PRAYER

Lord, help us to see that our needs outweigh our wants.  That we need You. That greed for material things does not become a problem for us. That the more we possess of You, the richer we will be.  That we will have everything we need on earth and even greater in Heaven.

In Jesus Name We Pray, Amen
