I was reading a devotional about a gentleman who had a massive heart attack.
The attack led to a condition called, “Locked-In Syndrome.”
It is a rare neurological disorder characterized by complete paralysis of voluntary muscles, except for those that control the eyes.
The individual is conscious, can think and reason, but are unable to speak or move.
Their eye movements and blinking is how they communicate with others.
This gentleman did just that and with the assistance of an aide wrote a book describing his life.
The aide would recite a coded alphabet and he would blink at the letter he wanted.
A dictation that took about 200,000 blinks.
It is an amazing example of how things can be done no matter our situation.
Paul did not have this exact syndrome.
He had, what you might call, the “Gospel Syndrome”. A suffering trouble in, or for, the sake of the gospel.
He was on house arrest and learned that his execution might be forthcoming.
Despite his situation and restriction, he knew that the Word of God was not chained, paralyzed or under restrictions.
He continued to spread the Word to those who came to see him and in writings.
He did not let his situation keep him bound.
We have to remember that no matter what we are suffering through, we are not bound.
To look to Christ, who is there for us always. As He is the Author and Finisher of our faith.
A WORD OF PRAYER
Lord, there are many things in life that can have us bound. It is a blessing to know that the Word of God is not bound. That no matter what we are suffering through You are always there to guide and assist us. When we do, we are no longer bound by our situations. Giving us the ability to encourage one another by example and through the Word. Thank You Lord.
In Jesus name we pray, Amen
