Today’s Reading: Psalms 33:8-14 / Mark 5:21-34
Today’s Verse: The counsel of the LORD standeth for ever, the thoughts of his heart to all generations. Psalms 33:11 KJV
The noun “counsel” means advice. Especially when given formally.
It includes guidance, direction, and instruction.
A plan is made. One that will guide us. One that will be a reminder of what we want to achieve in life.
Sometimes our plans are interrupted.
Something can change. It can cause a delay, but in the end have great accomplishments.
Jesus and His disciples were on an urgent mission when their trip was interrupted (Mark 5:21-42 KJV).
There was a ruler of the synagogue named Jairus. His daughter was dying and time was of the essence.
Jesus was on His way to their home.
Along the way there was “a certain woman, which had an issue of blood twelve years.” She had heard that Jesus would be passing that way. She knew that if she could just touch His clothes she would be made whole. And she was. (Mark 5:25-29 KJV).
But when she touched it, Jesus suddenly stopped and said, “Who touched my clothes?” (v. 30).
“And his disciples said unto him, Thou seest the multitude thronging thee, and sayest thou, Who touched me?” (v. 31).
The Savior took this as an opportunity to minister to a suffering woman.
Now, while Jesus was talking to this woman, Jairus’ daughter passed away.
Everyone felt it was too late, or so it seemed, for Jesus to do anything for her.
The delay actually allowed Jairus to experience an even deeper knowledge of Jesus. To gain knowledge of His power. Especially His power over death!
“The counsel of the LORD standeth for ever, the thoughts of his heart to all generations” (Psalms 33:11 KJV).
The power of God. Our great Counselor. That is what He is to all believers.
The more we follow His ways, we can expect His power to be manifested in our lives.
As Christians, people will sometimes seek our advice.
They know that the Spirit of the Lord reigns over our lives.
They trust that we will be able to tell them what to do.
Before we attempt to counsel anyone, it should start with prayer.
Asking the Holy Spirit to guide us. We do this because what we see or hear on the surface may not be the real problem. Divine revelation of the true issues will help us know what needs to be addressed.
There is an unchanging nature in all of God’s plans.
He knew the plan for our lives before we were born.
Providing us with a sense of stability and hope in a world where human plans may fail.
What He does in our lives will always be successful.
