Labels: Never Forget This is Something with Powerful Meaning

Read: Matthew 11:1-19

The Son of man came eating and drinking, and they say, Behold a man gluttonous, and a winebibber, a friend of publicans and sinners. But wisdom is justified of her children. Matthew 11:19 KJV

Everyone has a right to their own opinion.

But it should be based on the true facts of the matter.

We can fall into the trap of unfairly labeling someone,

When it comes to Christianity, the phrases and labeling can become a form of judging one’s faithfulness to Christ.

We know the Jews in Jesus’ day had their way of labeling Him.

They talked about Him as, “The Son of man came eating and drinking.”

They said He was “a man gluttonous, and a winebibber.”

That He was “a friend of publicans and sinners” (Matthew 11:19 KJV).

The words they were speaking was their own opinions.

Said out of selfish ambition.

The Father has made it clear that we are not to do anything out of selfish ambition or vain glory (Philippians 2:3-4 KJV).

Their actions showed how wrong they were about the Savior’s motives and His mission.

One of spreading the Word.

They chose to ignore the key facts of His mission.

God’s Word is full of love, truth, and goodness.

Let us not fall into the trap of labeling one another.

The Father has something for each of us to accomplish in this lifetime.

Mankind may not agree with it, but He has laid the plan on how we are to do them.

A WORD OF PRAYER

Father, it is not Your will that we label one another with words. We are not to sit in judgment of one another. Forgive us for judging one another. Help us to show the same spirit of love that the Savior has shown us. We long for the knowledge of the truth and wisdom. Everything we need to do Your will.

In Jesus’ Name We Pray, Amen
