Today’s Reading: Proverbs 18:21-25
Today’s Verse: A man that hath friends must shew himself friendly: and there is a friend that sticketh closer than a brother. Proverbs 18:24 KJV
Friendship is a voluntary relationship. It is characterized by mutual affection. There is a certain amount of trust. There is respect. There is emotional support.
Individuals enjoy each other’s company. They have common interests. They love to talk about their experiences.
Their bonds can be strong. There is a commitment to each other’s well-being.
Today’s verse speaks to the difference between on the surface relationships and genuine, loyal friendships.
It encourages us to learn how to choose our friends.
It can be tempting to surround ourselves with many people. We must be careful. Some of them may not be there in times of need.
We need to have deep loyal relationships that can withstand challenges. Ones that can last a lifetime.
“What a friend we have in Jesus.”
This is a hymn that serves as a powerful reminder. It reminds us of the close, personal relationship we can have with Jesus.
He is the type of friend who offers unwavering support. He shows deep loyalty. Sacrificial love. He has a willingness to be there in both good times and bad times.
It can be a deep, meaningful connection. It is built on a foundation of trust. It offers great benefits for our well-being.
“What a friend we have in Jesus. All our sins and griefs to bear. What a privilege to carry everything to God in prayer.”
The Savior will never forsake those who trust in Him. To those who love Him.
He is always there for us.
He is a faithful friend.
As we walk in faith. Let us be faithful friends to each other, like Jesus is to us.
A WORD OF PRAYER
Father, we recognize Jesus as a friend that sticks closer than a brother. We are thankful that He is there through every season in our lives. He offers comfort, joy, and hope. More than we can provide each other. We know we sometimes fall short in this area. Please help us to do better in offering support and love like You do. We want to embrace Your unfailing love. We want to walk in Your presence every day. We know we are never alone. We will always have a friend in You. Thank You for being a friend we can count on.
In Jesus’ Name we pray, Amen
