Hear this, ye old men, and give ear, all ye inhabitants of the land. Hath this been in your days, or even in the days of your fathers? Joel 1:2 KJV
A prophet is regarded as an inspired teacher or proclaimer of the will of God.
In Christianity, they are known as the ones inspired by God through the Holy Spirit to deliver a message.
No matter what the denomination is of the church and the title for the minister may be, they are sent to lead and guide us.
Teaching us the ways of the Lord.
Making it possible for us to be intercessors.
Letting what we learn be the wisdom and vision the Lord desires for us.
In the Bible, Joel was appointed by the Lord and is considered a prophet.
He preached to the people to Judah.
He was divinely appointed to deliver a message to the people.
Warning the Jews of the destruction and sadness that was about to happen upon the land of Judah. (Joel 1:1-7).
He was warning them about the ravages of locusts and other insects that would consume the land because of their disobedience to the Lord.
He strongly encouraged them of the need to repent, fast, and pray.
The only way for them to regain favor with the Lord.
He was obeying the Lord and trying to help his people get and stay on the right track.
That is what our leaders of today are doing.
They have a calling on their lives.
The Lord has given them a Word to speak to us and we must listen.
When we truly receive it and live by it, we can be living examples to others.
We may not stand in the pulpit, but we are all to serve as one who is a spokesperson for the Lord.
To communicate His Will and desires to the people.
To be an encouragement in faithfulness and pray that it will lead them to repentance.
We were created of God and at His command.
He can take away any or all our comforts to show us how we are living the wrong way and that He is not pleased with it.
Let us never forget that the more we trust in earthly pleasures, the more we expose ourselves to trouble.
Heed the warning signs He gives us from the pulpit to living testimonies.
The Lord desires for us to live happy, not stressful lives.
He has told us, “Hear this” and “give ear”.
God is trying to tell you something.
Are you listening?
A WORD OF PRAYER
Father, every creature is at Your command. We know that You have the power to punish a proud, rebellious people. That is why You have appointed ministers all over the world to teach Your people. They are striving to get and keep the people on the right track. To turn away from all their earthly desires. Thank You for the leaders You have placed in our lives and for giving us the chance to pray and repent of our sins.
In Jesus Name We Pray, Amen
