Today’s Reading: Genesis 18:1-8
Today’s Verse: And said, My Lord, if now I have found favour in thy sight, pass not away, I pray thee, from thy servant. Genesis 18:3 KJV
Through faith in Jesus Christ, we have been forgiven our sins.
As believers we have been adopted into God’s family.
We have found favor in His sight. We have a close relationship with Him. Access to His love.
We all have beliefs and values that He wants others to see through us. The things that make us who we are in Him.
We never know who we may meet in life. It could be someone who needs to feel His love. It may even be someone the Lord has sent to test our faith.
In this passage, Abraham is seen as a man of faith.
He was sitting in a tent. He was waiting to entertain any weary traveler.
While he was sitting, he saw three men coming.
They were visiting the plains of Mamre. They were three heavenly beings in human bodies.
Some say they were all created angels. Some say that one of them was the Son of God. The Angel of the covenant.
At this time, Abraham did not know their true identity. But his behavior suggests that he recognized their importance.
He greets them. He then respectfully receives them in his home.
He immediately offers food, water, and rest to the visitors.
He called himself their “servant.” Showing the importance of being humble.
He showed a powerful sense of selflessness. He showed generosity towards them. A behavior that showed much respect for them.
His actions demonstrated the importance of showing kindness. To show genuine love to each other. Even to strangers.
Abraham was a man of faith. One who helped define the growing importance of God’s plan for us.
His action speaks to the Christian call to love and serve one another.
God desires to have a relationship with us. Not through force, but by invitation and hospitality.
Reflect on His love. Then show it to others.
God has a plan for each of our lives.
We never know who we will meet on this journey called life.
Let us be prepared to receive them with the same love that the Lord has shown us.
A WORD OF PRAYER
Heavenly Father, because of our faith in Christ Jesus, we have life. We come humbly before You, thanking You for showing us grace. For the favor we have received from You. For letting us be made one of Your children. Thank You for the lessons we learn from servants like Abraham. Love is to be shown everywhere we go. We are happy to enjoy a daily fellowship with You. May we always acknowledge the blessings in our lives. May we continue to find favor in Your sight. Showing others what it means to be favored of God.
In Jesus’ Name we pray, Amen
