Today’s Reading: 1 Thessalonians 4:10-18 / Psalms 46:1-11
Today’s Verse: But I would not have you to be ignorant, brethren, concerning them which are asleep, that ye sorrow not, even as others which have no hope. 1 Thessalonians 4:13 KJV
It is not uncommon that even after many years of losing a loved one, we can still find ourselves entering a world of “What if.”
It is not hard for us, in our grief, to think about our loss and wish we could have them with us again.
Staying in this state is not good.
It is a place of regret and second-guessing. Always bringing on feelings of hopelessness.
Yes, our grief is real. Sadness endures.
That is when we must remember that life is better for those that have gone on.
Knowing that in their passing they loved the Savior, and they are now in a place that is “better by far” (Philippians 1:23 KJV).
We still have a life to live.
We must continue to honor God as we dwell in the world of “What is.”
The Bible is where we find our “What is.”
It is where we find sure hope and strength.
We find the encouragement and comfort we need (1 Thessalonians 4:13-14 KJV).
Our greatest help will always come from trusting God,
And as fellow believers, we are to support one another in times of sorrow.
Not deaden one another’s spirits.
We are not to weaken one another’s hand but give one another encouragement.
Reminding ourselves that, “Blessed be God, even the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies, and the God of all comfort” (2 Corinthians 1:3).
That “God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble” Psalms 46:1 KJV).
The Savior is, “Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the ending.”
The One “which is, and which was, and which is to come.”
“The Almighty” (Revelations 1:8 KJV).
“For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so them also which sleep in Jesus will God bring with him” (1 Thessalonians 4:14 KJV).
He is our sure hope.
We will be together again in the end.
But until then, God still has a Word for us.
Keep living in the land of “What Is.”
A WORD OF PRAYER
Father, we all wish to avoid the tragedies of life. You know our broken hearts. You know the pain of any loss of a loved one or friend. We know You felt it when You suffered through the death of the Savior. That is why in the midst of all our sorrows, we know You can help us rest in the comfort of the hope, encouragement, and comfort that Word and fellowship with others bring. Thank You for always being there for us. We put our hope and trust in You.
In Jesus Name We Pray, Amen
