Having A Good Name – This is Our Greatest Desire

Today’s Reading: Proverbs 22: 1-4 / Psalms 38

Today’s Verse: A good name is rather to be chosen than great riches, and loving favour rather than silver and gold. Proverbs 22:1 KJV

We are all known for certain qualities or actions.

It can influence how others view and treat us. It can affect our personal or professional relationships.

If strong, it can be a valuable asset. If negative, it can significantly delay opportunities.

As believers, how others view us is important.

How we do things reflects our character and our sincerity.

It shows that we are blessed with wisdom and righteousness.

A strong faithfulness to God.

The Bible tells us, “A good name is rather to be chosen than great riches, and loving favour rather than silver and gold” (Proverbs 22:1 KJV).

We want our name to be one that says we believe. That we trust in the Lord.

We want others to see that He is working on us. That our past has been forgiven. That there has been a change in our lives.

That we know that we have changed.

Sometimes our past actions and behavior will always be seen by others.

Forgiving and forgetting is not what they do.

In Psalms 38, David reflects on the pains he felt because of his bad decisions.

Even though his sins had been forgiven, his reputation had been stained.

People were continuing to hold his past mistakes against him.

But he kept his trust in the Lord. He was being changed for the good.

Faith foresees the evil coming upon sinners, It looks to Jesus Christ as the sure refuge from the storm.

A change is being made in all our lives.

Since Jesus came into our lives, a change has been made. We are not what we used to be.

Old things have passed; behold we are new.

We are living testimonies of what God can do in our lives.

The Word is our guide to keeping a good name.

“Therefore see that you walk carefully [living life with honor, purpose, and courage; shunning those who tolerate and enable evil], not as the unwise, but as wise [sensible, intelligent, discerning people]” (Ephesians 5:15 AMP).

“For to this you were called, because Christ also suffered for us, leaving us an example, that you should follow His steps” (1 Peter 2:21 NKJV).

We all have made mistakes.

All we have to do is acknowledge them.

Thanking the Savior for His Divine forgiveness.

“A good name is to be chosen rather great riches” Proverbs 22:1 NIV).

Going forward, we will be more careful to do that which is pleasing in His sight.

Always turning to the Lord for the wisdom and guidance we need.

Nothing in this world is greater than having a good name.

In Him, a good name is what we want. What we really should desire.

A WORD OF PRAYER

Father, We know none of us are perfect. But we must be more careful to do that by which we may get and keep a good name. To represent You in all our ways. We are thankful that we can confess our sins to You. That You are faithful and just to forgive our sins. That You will cleanse us from all unrighteousness. May we never forget that when we take care of our character and live according to the Word, everything else will take care of itself. According to Proverbs 4:23 KJV, help us to keep our hearts with all diligence; for out of it are the issues of life.” Thank You Father for our chance at a good name.

In Jesus Name We Pray, Amen
