Historically, a cupbearer was an officer of high rank in royal courts.
Their duty was to pour, taste and serve the drinks at the royal table.
Tasting because the king was in constant fear of plots and the possibilities of poisoning.
The person doing this was regarded as thoroughly trustworthy to hold the position.
That was Nehemiah’s position to the Persian King.
But it was not his main position.
Nehemiah had another position that was even more dear to his heart.
The position of serving and pleasing the Lord.
He feared, believed and trusted the Lord.
He knew, in his heart, that the Lord would hear his prayers and the prayers of his fellow man.
Prayers that also expressed his desire for the king to show compassion to him.
Just like Nehemiah, we hold a certain position in our lives.
But the Lord should hold the main position.
We should fear, believe and trust in the Lord.
Knowing that our communion with Him prepares us to be able to deal with man and any situation we face.
Trusting Him with all our heart.
Knowing that He is always with us and our prayers will be answered.
A WORD OF PRAYER
Lord, when we set our minds on You, we have liberty. We find satisfaction in Your Word and our difficulties are taken away. Let us continue to keep You first in our lives.
In Jesus name we pray, Amen
