Today’s Reading: John 8:12-20
Then spake Jesus again unto them, saying, I am the light of the world: he that followeth me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life.
John 8:12 KJV
Each year for well over a month there will be some who put up Christmas lights at their homes and businesses.
Some are just to be a sight attraction.
Others are designed to attract people to spend their money at their store.
It is a time when there is enjoyment of the different colorful lightings.
All types of decorations.
There may be choirs singing Christmas carols or Christmas music playing in the background.
It is all so pleasant and joyful that there are those who tell others about them.
Encouraging them to see them.
The first Christmas “light-up” was not created with colorful lighting and decorations.
In fact there were “country shepherds abiding in the field, keeping watch over their flock by night” (Luke 2:8 KJV).
When an “angel of the Lord came upon them, and the glory of the Lord shone round about them” (Luke 2:9 KJV).
“And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God, and saying, Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, good will toward men” (Luke 2:13-14 KJV).
When the angel had gone from them, the shepherds went to Bethlehem to see if what the angel said was true (Luke 2:15 KJV).
After they had seen that what the angel said was true, they could not keep it to themselves.
They had to tell others what they had seen and heard (Luke 2:19 KJV).
Christ is the Light of the world.
He enlightens the entire world.
Those who follow Him will not walk in the darkness of sin.
So during this Christmas and beyond, let us share the good news that Christ is the “Light of life” to all who will follow Him (John 8:12 KJV).
Acknowledging Him as the ‘Greatest Gift.”
A WORD OF PRAYER
Savior, help us this Christmas to show the light of Your presence. To show goodness to others. Helping others to know they no longer have to walk in darkness, because You are the Light of lie. The One who has come to free us from the bondage of sin. Your love is the greatest gift we could ever receive. Let us be ready to show it to everyone that comes into our lives.
In Jesus Name We Pray, Amen
