Today’s Reading: Proverbs 16:30-33 / Jonah 1
Today’s Verse: The lot is cast into the lap, But its every decision is from the LORD. Proverbs 16:33 NKJV
A decision is based on the choices we make. It is made after thinking about the results of our actions.
Positive results are always the goal.
What the writer of Proverbs said proved to be true.
“Casting lots causes contentions to cease, And keeps the mighty apart” (Proverbs 18:18 NKJV).
Many see this as nothing more than a matter of chance.
“The lot is cast into the lap; but the whole disposing thereof is of the LORD” (Proverbs 16:33 KJV).
“The lot is cast into the lap” refers to the ancient practice of casting lots. It is similar to flipping a coin or rolling dice. It was used to make decisions or determine outcomes.
“But its every decision is from the Lord” highlights God’s sovereignty. That He had control over all events. Even those that appear random or by chance.
This was true in the story of Jonah. It tells how God showed Himself to be Lord. This was even through the actions of Jonah being disobedient to His commands. This was even though there was unbelief amongst the sailors.
God was still in control. His command remained the same.
This showed that while we may initiate actions or decisions, the final outcome May not be what we want it to be.
God determines everything. It is His will that will be done.
He has a way to encourage us.
He wants us to trust in His plan. To always seek His guidance. To trust even when circumstances seem uncertain.
Never forgetting that even the smallest details are under His control.
“We may throw the dice, but the LORD determines how they fall” (Proverbs 16:33 NLT).
The plan of His heart is for all generations.
His counsel stands forever.
Blessed are those that give themselves up to the will of God. Because He knows what is good for them.
A WORD OF PRAYER
Father, there will always be times when we think we try to do things our way. We made the wrong choice. Begin to feel like nothing will work. Forgetting that You have told us that You know what is best for us. That all we have to do Is pray and seek Your guidance. Listening to what You say. Doing thing according to Your will. Give us the wisdom and courage to do things Your way. We trust in You and the perfect plan You have for our lives.
