Leaning On Him – This is Definitely A Great Thing

Today’s Reading: John 13:12-26

Today’s Verse: Now there was leaning on Jesus’ bosom one of his disciples, whom Jesus loved. John 13:23 KJV

In this passage, the Apostle John writes about how he was sitting beside Jesus at the last Supper.

“Now there was leaning on Jesus’ bosom one of his disciples, whom Jesus loved” (John 13:23 KJV).

He used the term “one of his disciples, whom Jesus loved” as a way of referring to himself without mentioning his name.

There was the typical banquet setting of first-century Israel. One in which the table was much lower than those we use today. It was about knee-high.

Without chairs, they would recline on mats or cushions. It was a natural position for those around the table.

John was sitting so close to the Lord that when he turned to ask Him a question, he was “lying on Jesus’ breast” (John 13:25 KJV). His head was on His chest.

John’s closeness to Jesus in that moment shows how our lives can be with Him today.

We may not be able to touch Jesus physically, but we can trust Him to be there for us.

Every day we should be learning to lean on Jesus.

Finding the power we need.

Always resting on His promise, “Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest” (Matthew 11:28 KJV).

The more we learn to lean on Him, we will have a joy that fills our hearts.

One that cannot be explained.

There will be a glorious victory each day.

How blessed we are to have a Savior whom we can trust.

Praising Him for how He faithfully carries us through every circumstance of our lives.

Make it your goal to lean on Him today.

A WORD OF PRAYER

Father, through the Word, You are teaching us something every day. Through all our experiences You are teaching us how You will make a way. Let us be willing to learn. To trust You as our source of strength and hope. Casting all our cares on You. Giving You praise because You are faithful. Glorious victory is ours when we lean on You. Thank You for being there for us.

In Jesus Name We Pray, Amen
