Things look so good to us that we feel we have to have it, when we really don’t need it.
Excessive desires and acting on them are what leads us to a state of greed.
A state that causes us to err on many occasions and lose out on the things God desires for our lives.
In this verse, Solomon is warning us that greed is an enticement of sinners and should be avoided.
That greed is a practice that will lead only to earthly gains. Not a true form of profit.
That is why the wisdom of God is to be shown in the way we conduct our lives.
Remember, the Lord has said, “For what is a man profited, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul?” Matthew 16:26 KJV
A righteous life is filled with the teachings and implementation of the Word and is more profitable than anything greed could ever provide.
A WORD OF PRAYER
Lord, the world is full of opportunities to gain things. Gains that can lead to greed. Help us to remember that these are only gains of the world. That we can’t take them with us. That by living by the Word we stand to profit more. A profit that can be gained here on earth but all the more abundant and everlasting in heaven. Thank you for the wisdom.
In Jesus name we pray, Amen
