Near The Cross – The Authentic Desire of the Heart

Today’s Reading: Galatians 6:11-17

Today’s Verse: But God forbid that I should glory, save in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ, by whom the world is crucified unto me, and I unto the world. Galatians 6:14 KJV

Hymns are religious songs. Ones that give honor and praise to God. Ones that give encouragement regarding the things of life.

The Bible speaks positively about them. Passages that encourage believers to sing them.

They express joy and gratitude.

They teach and gently warns us about how we do things. Making it where we can motivate one another through genuine love.

Songs like “Jesus Keep Me Near the Cross.” It reminds believers about the power of the cross. That we can draw near to Him. We find glory and rest in Him.

In this passage, Paul is not speaking proudly about himself or about the things he has done. He is talking about the cross of Christ. About how important it was to his faith and life.

That every believer is crucified, just like Christ. That there is a separation from worldly desires.

The atoning sacrifice of Christ.

A reminder of how important it is to keep our focus on the cross. It is our source of new life and healing.

The power of the cross.

When we look at the cross, it is our reminder of the power of God.

Out of love for us, He sent Jesus to die for us. To save, heal and change our lives.
To offer spiritual, physical, and emotional healing to all who believe.

Christ on the cross is the greatest example to live by. He has shown us what it means to remain strong through our trials and tribulations.

The more we acknowledge the sufferings of the Redeemer from the world, the less likely we are to love the world.

Let us keep our focus on Christ and the cross. Finding encouragement in the hymns we sing. Watching and waiting. Hoping and trusting.

A WORD OF PRAYER

Savior, we are thankful for all that You have done for us. Thankful for all that You continue to do. Nothing that we face can compare to Your dying on the cross. You told us in John 15:13, “Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends.” Showing us how much the Father loves and cares about us. Showing us how much You love and care about us. May we continue to keep our focus on the cross. Knowing it will draw us nearer to You. You are our source of life and healing. Jesus, keep us near the cross until our raptured souls shall find, rest beyond the river.

In Jesus’ Name we pray, Amen
