Read: John 18:15-18 / John 21:14-20
He saith unto him the third time, Simon, son of Jonas, lovest thou me? Peter was grieved because he said unto him the third time, Lovest thou me? And he said unto him, Lord, thou knowest all things; thou knowest that I love thee. Jesus saith unto him, Feed my sheep. John 21:17 KJV
“If at first you don’t succeed, try, try again!”
This is a saying many of us have heard.
They are words of encouragement.
To never give up but keep going.
Ones that tell us that no matter our failures we can learn from them and grow stronger.
Never give up.
It is just another step closer to our success.
Peter came to understand this.
We have read that just before Jesus was crucified, Peter on three occasions denied that he was one of His disciples (John 18:15-18 KJV).
Thankfully, this story does not end with failure.
As we continue to read, we see where Jesus continues to encourage Peter to serve Him faithfully (John 21:15-17 KJV).
He listened to what the Lord was telling him.
In the beginning chapters of Acts, we see where he is teaching and leading the early church.
Bolding proclaiming the gospel to all who would listen.
He learned from his mistakes.
The same holds true for us all.
We are never to forget that with God all things are possible.
With Him we have everything we need to succeed in life.
So, if at first you do not succeed, remember with God’s help all you have to do is try again.
He has a mission for each of our lives.
It is not in His plan for any of us to fail.
A WORD OF PRAYER
Father, there will always be something that will make us question our ability to accomplish a goal. We think about past mistakes that make us doubt we will ever get it right. That is when we need to turn to You. You know all things, even the secrets of our hearts. We know we need You and all the wisdom we can receive through You. You show us that as we learn and try again success is always near. Thank You for the strength You give us to keep trying. With You, all things are possible. We never need to give up.
In Jesus’ Name We Pray, Amen
