Outstanding Titles: Never Forget Where the Gift Came From

Read: Acts 11: 25-30 – Matthew 16:13-20

And when he had found him, he brought him unto Antioch. And it came to pass, that a whole year they assembled themselves with the church, and taught much people. And the disciples were called Christians first in Antioch.

Acts 11:26 KJV

In the beginning followers of Christ were called disciples.

They were learners and scholars.

But during the time of their discipleship they became known as Christians.

A title that meant they were a follower of Christ.

Ones whose actions shows they embrace the religion of Christ.

That they believe in His promises.

Always striving to shape their lives by Christ’s precepts and example.

As followers it is the title we are striving to obtain.

But we have to do it the right way.

In this passage we see that there were multitudes that took the name of Christian.

This happened even when it did not rightly belong to them.

They claimed to prophesy and\cast out demons.

To do wonders in the Master’s name when they were not.

They were trying to claim and receive an honor that they did not deserve.

They were false teachers.

They had no place in the family of God.

Sadly, there are still those who call themselves Christians.

Yet they are not true followers of Christ.

Their sinfulness has not been acknowledged.

Asking for forgiveness is not what they desire.

They have lost sight of what salvation really means.

A true love for the Lord and His ways are hindered.

Thankfully, there is time to repent.

We can renew our vows by acknowledging our sins.

Proclaiming that the Lord reigns in our lives.

Giving us the right to be called a Christian.

Never letting anything cause us to forget who we are in Christ.

Let us be like the disciples in Antioch (Acts 11:26 KJV).

We all should strive to be rightfully called a “Christian.”

To be called “a follower of Christ.”

One that is true in faith.

How wonderful it would be if all mankind were true Christians.

We would be one large family living a life full of love and happiness.

A WORD OF PRAYER

Father, we know that our names are recorded in Heaven. Let us forget the other names and titles we may have. The ones that keep us from doing Your will. We must always bear the name of a True Christian. That one that is truly a follower of Christ. The one who would truly do as He would do. We want to be disciples that are worthy to be called Christians. Thank You for showing us what we need to do.

In Jesus Name We Pray, Amen
