It is common courtesy that from the time we hear of someone we know has passed away to reach out to the family.
We naturally begin to shower them with love and words of encouragement.
Having a desire to find out how we can be of assistance to them.
Depending on their family status, we know that they will be in the company of relatives, friends and loved ones.
So to help in their time of mourning, we take refreshments and accessories to their home.
We offer our help and assist them in any way possible.
Hoping to make it easier for the family to focus on making arrangements.
To help them be more relaxed when receiving visitors that come to mourn with them.
This same showing of love continues after the funeral.
The family is showered with blessings in many ways and embrace the love and support that is being shown.
They are forever grateful.
This is the type of love the Savior desires all of us to show.
David had a friend named Jonathan.
When he heard that he had passed away, he desired to remember him in a special way.
He wanted to reach out to the family.
He searched and found that Jonathan had a son whose name was Mephibosheth.
Because of David’s love for Jonathan, he showed his love to his son by extending courtesy and kindness to him.
He restored all the land that had belonged to his grandfather Saul and gave it to him in honor of his father, Jonathan.
He also provided him with a continuing supply of food and drink.
It was his way of blessing him and showing him how much he loved his father.
There will always be times to remember those who have passed away.
Our expressions of love, to those that are living, may not be as David did, but showing kindness and love in the ways we are able, is what the Lord desires for us to do.
A WORD OF PRAYER
Lord, give us the strength to extend kindness in memory of the kindness others have shown to us. Knowing that it really occurs because of Your great kindness.
In Jesus Name We Pray, Amen
