Rest: This is Really an Excellent Thing in Life

Today’s Reading: Mark 6:30-36

Today’s Verse: And he said unto them, Come ye yourselves apart into a desert place, and rest a while: for there were many coming and going, and they had no leisure so much as to eat. Mark 6:31 KJV

To pace yourself means to manage your speed.

You try to avoid tiring yourself out. Making it where you can complete a task or activity without causing yourself stress.

You learn to regulate your activity level to maintain energy and avoid burnout.

In this passage there was a time when Jesus sent His disciples out to teach in His name. They were so excited that they forgot to take time to eat and rest properly.

Upon their return, the Savior told them, “Come ye yourselves apart into a desert place, and rest a while: for there were many coming and going, and they had no leisure so much as to eat” (Mark 6:31 KJV).

The Savior knew they were about doing His will. But He also knew they needed to take a moment to eat and rest.

He knew the importance of taking care of ourselves.

The Scripture describes Jesus resting.

He is shown sleeping in a boat during a storm (Matthew 8:23-27).

He left crowds to find quiet places to pray and rest (Luke 4:42, 5:16. 9:10, 21:37, Mark 6:31-32 KJV).

We can take comfort in knowing that if the Son of God needed to take a rest every now and then, so should we.

We all need rest. We all should follow His example.

If we go too long without it, it will cause us to suffer physically and emotionally.

Making it where we are unable to fulfill our responsibilities like we should.

The Savior appreciates all that we do for the kingdom, but He also knows when we need to rest.

Has He been encouraging you to “come aside…and rest a while”?

He invites all who are weary and burdened to come to Him for rest. He will always offer us peace and relief from our burdens.

He will always provide rest for those whose trust is in Him. For those who follow Him.

Sometimes a few more rest stops with Him may be all we need.

A WORD OF PRAYER

Savior, life is always going to have its times of burdens and trials. They are always seen by You. We are thankful that You provide rest for us when we are tired. That we can find refuge in You and the Word. You are the strength of our lives. We stand on Your promise that You will never leave us. You never come short of Your Word. Thank You for inviting us to take a rest. We are coming into that desert place to rest a while.

In Jesus Name We Pray, Amen
