Today’s Reading: Nehemiah 12:27-43
Also that day they offered great sacrifices, and rejoiced: for God had made them rejoice with great joy: the wives also and the children rejoiced: so that the joy of Jerusalem was heard even afar off.
Nehemiah 12:43 KJV
Surround sound is defined as a system of stereophonic sound.
It involves three or more speakers surrounding the listener so as to create a more realistic effect.
It is used most often in movie theaters.
What many do not realize is that surround sound has been around for thousands of years.
In this passage we see where Nehemiah introduced the idea at the dedication of the rebuilt wall in Jerusalem.
He explained how he “brought up the princes of Judah upon the wall.”
How he then “appointed two great companies of them that gave thanks” (Nehemiah 12:31 KJV).
The two great companies were actually choirs.
They began at the southern part of the walls at the Dung gate.
One went to the left and one went to the right.
They surrounded the city of Jerusalem in praise as they marched toward the temple (Nehemiah 12:31, 37-40 KJV).
On that day, the choirs also “offered great sacrifices and rejoiced: for God had made them rejoice with great joy.”
“The wives also and the children rejoiced: so that the joy of Jerusalem was heard even afar off” (Nehemiah 12:43 KJV).
Their praise was acknowledging they appreciated God’s help in helping the defeat the enemy.
Making it where they could rebuild the wall.
Let us take the time to reflect on how God has given us cause to praise Him.
Praising Him for the joy He has brought to our lives.
For the times He has given us clear directions that always ended in victory.
For all the comfort He has shown in our times of trouble.
But most of all, taking the time to praise Him for the gift of salvation.
We may not be able to create “surround sound” with our praise, but we can still rejoice in the joy God has given us.
For the blessings He desires to send our way.
It will always come when we put our hope and trust in Him.
Never forgetting to give Him praise.
Our praise will always let others know how much we appreciate what the Father is doing in our lives.
Sing a song of praise for the victories won.
Sing a song of praise for the victories we will always win through Him.
A WORD OF PRAYER
We praise You Father with words, with song and with our lives. We desire to have Your holiness upon our lives. Letting nothing cause us to do anything that does not conform to the Word. We offer You our hearts in response to Your great power. For all the loving provisions You give us. For all the loving care and concern You have for us. We can never praise You enough for all the things You do in our lives. But we will continue to do so with all that we have.
In Jesus Name We Pray, Amen
