Never Again: A Most Valuable Lesson Regarding Sin Traps

Read: Judges 6:6-20

And she said, The Philistines be upon thee, Samson. And he awoke out of his sleep, and said, I will go out as at other times before, and shake myself. And he wist not that the LORD was departed from him. Judges 16:20 KJV

There is not one person on this earth that does not want to feel secure.

We all want to feel secure, free from fear, anxiety, and danger.

We want to maintain a sense of safety and free from all doubts.

When we rely on the things of the world, we can find ourselves getting deeper and deeper in sin.

Sins that cause us to slowly start slipping away from the Lord.

We fail to see what is happening in our lives.

It is when the Lord allows us to have a startling experience that we realize our true situation.

This awakening allows us to see how Satan has stripped away our spiritual power.

That is what happened with Samson (Judges 16:6-20).

He had “been a Nazarite unto God from [his] mother’s womb.

He was involved with Delilah, a woman who talked him into telling her where his strength came from.

She was being paid to get this information by the Pharisees who sought to do him harm.

He told her about all the ways his strength could be taken from him.

He told her that “If they bind me with seven green withs that were never dried, then shall I be weak, and be as another man” (v.6).

It was not so, because when she and the Pharisees tried it, it failed.

Instead of taking to heart what she had done, Samson continued to see her.

She addressed the fact that he had lied to her and again sought to get more information.

Samson gave in and told her, “If they bind me fast with new ropes that never were occupied, then shall I be weak, and be as another man.”

That, “if I be shaven, then my strength will go from me, and I shall become weak, and be like any other man.”

She once again took this information to the Pharisees.

This time they succeeded, and Samson was made weak and blinded.

Samson’s weakness was his powerful desire for Deliah.

This passage shows us how we begin to let many things cause us to slip away from the Savior and His teachings.

We forget about the Word and all the power it has in our lives.

Samson’s fall is a warning to us all to be careful to watch against all fleshly lusts.

It causes all our glory to be gone.

It weakens our defense system and causes separation from the Savior.

Let us examine ourselves daily.

We never want the Lord to depart from us.

A WORD OF PRAYER

Father, help us to realize when we are not living according to the Word when we try to do things our way. Remind us of o how You know what is best for us. That when we try to do things our way, we are opening the door for Satan to come in. Give us the strength to follow through with all we know to be right and true. Thank You for the opportunity to look at our lives and make the right choice. Knowing that You will always be the right choice.

In Jesus’ Name We Pray, Amen
