Servant First – Will Make You the Greatest of All

Read: Mark 10:35-45

And whosoever of you will be the chiefest, shall be servant of all. Mark 10:44 KJV

One who is selfish is thinking only of their own advantage.

They are not considering the needs or feelings of others.

Selfishness is not to be taken lightly.

In this passage James and John asked Jesus to place them in a prominent position in His kingdom.

One in which they would be very well known and important.

The other ten disciples were not pleased with their request.

It is believed it was because they too desired the same position of authority.

They were all said to be exhibiting some form of selfishness.

Our old nature would be the type to desire to be very well know and important.

Christ showed them how this was being used in a wrong and inappropriate way.

He told the disciples that “whoever of you desires to be first shall be slave of all” (Mark 10:44 NKJV).

That as Children of God, we know that we must follow in the ways of Christ.

To remember that He “came not to be ministered unto, but to minister, and to give his life a ransom for many” (Mark 10:45 KJV).

We are not to let worldly honor be what brings harm to our spiritual growth.

Letting nothing keep us from doing the will of the Savior.

We must care most about obtaining wisdom and grace.

Learning how to suffer with Him and trust Him to provide.

Joy and greatness always comes when we live by His example.

When we live according to the Word.

A WORD OF PRAYER

Savior, just as You took the role of a servant, we should desire to do the same. Never let a desire for a position of leadership or authority rule over our lives. Never letting the ways of selfishness take control of our lives. You only want what is good for us. Help us to deny sinful pride and know that joy that comes when we do Your will. Thank You for showing us how it is to be done.

In Jesus’ Name We Pray, Amen
