Today’s Reading: John 14:18-31
Today’s Verse: Jesus answered and said unto him, If a man love me, he will keep my words: and my Father will love him, and we will come unto him, and make our abode with him. John 14:23 KJV
True love is a deeply committed form of love. It is characterized by deep affection. Trust. Understanding. It is concerned more with the needs and wishes of others than with one’s own.
There is honest communication. Selfless support. It looks beyond faults and sees needs.
There is a secure, comfortable connection that fosters growth and loyalty.
Today’s verse talks about a true love for Jesus. That it is demonstrated through obedience to His Word. It leads to a deep, intimate relationship with Him. A divine presence of both the Father and the Son with believers. There is even the promise of the Holy Spirit.
It establishes a direct link between loving Jesus and obeying His teachings, or commands.
There is a promise of a unique and intimate relationship. One in which the Father and the Son “will come unto him, and make [their] abode with him” (John 14:23 KJV).
God desires to have a close fellowship with those who love and obey Him.
The Holy Spirit brings comfort. To help us. Counsel us To defend us. Reminding us of Jesus’ teachings. Doing it in ways that builds our faith.
Where sincere love to Christ is in the heart, there will be obedience.
Love will be a commanding, constraining principle.
Where love is, duty follows from a principle of gratitude.
God will not only love obedient believers, but he will take pleasure in loving them, and will rest in love with them. He will be with them at their home.
God loves us. He wants only the best for us.
These privileges are confined to those whose faith worketh by love. Whose love for Jesus leads them to keep His commandments.
Those only that see Christ with an eye of faith, shall see Him forever.
This message reminds us of His Divine presence. It is written to provide comfort. To remind His followers about the benefits of showing love. That He is with them throughout their lives.
Let us show God love. The same wonderful love that He has shown us.
The more we stay in His Word, the easier this becomes.
