Have You Forgotten God? – Remembering Our Awesome, Powerful Maker

Today’s Reading: Isaiah 17:1-11

Today’s Verse: In the day shalt thou make thy plant to grow, and in the morning shalt thou make thy seed to flourish: but the harvest shall be a heap in the day of grief and of desperate sorrow. Isaiah 17:11 KJV

Sin destroys cities. Sin destroys lives.

In this passage, sin and wickedness had reached a point where the people would have to face the consequences of their actions. They had forgotten about God. They were relying on their own creations.

Because of sin, the people had reached a point where God’s patience had ended. Divine judgement was coming.

The destruction of Damascus and the surrounding region shows what will happen when we forget God. When we turn to praising idols.

Their glory was as quickly cut down and taken away by the enemy, as the corn was taken out of the field by a farmer.

“In the day shalt thou make thy plant to grow, and in the morning shalt thou make thy seed to flourish: but the harvest shall be a heap in the day of grief and of desperate sorrow” (Isaiah 17:11 KJV).

This verse is our warning against forgetting God.

We are not to rely on our own efforts. We are not to give divine honor or worship to anything other than the one true God.

God is our Maker. The Holy One of Israel. We are the work of His grace.

Our true prosperity and security only comes from acknowledging God. He is the source of all things.

A WORD OF PRAYER

Father, may we not follow the ways of Damascus. Feeling the Divine justice that they felt. We know that sin has no place in our lives. That we all have the ability to defeat it. It is up to us. We are staying rooted in the Word. Following Your lead. Knowing that with the Lord on our side, all things are possible. Our salvation and grace only come through You. Thank You for giving us the chance to live according to Your way.

In Jesus’ Name we pray, Amen
