Drinking too much alcohol can cause someone to lose control of their faculties or behavior.
Many times it is done in order to forget something sad or upsetting.
It can become an addiction that they cannot break.
A state of drunkenness can cause a loss of coordination or balance.
Poor judgment or the inability to make wise decisions.
A slurring of speech. Making it difficult for anyone to understand what is being said.
A visual change or the inability for one to see clearly.
In this verse, Paul is encouraging us that when we find ourselves in any adverse situation, that we not seek to raise our spirits by strong drink.
That by daily, passionately praying to the Lord, seeking to be filled with the Spirit, we can make it through anything.
We can stay balanced, make good decisions, speak effectively and see things the way they truly should be.
Clearly knowing that the Lord is our gracious Comforter, leading and guiding us in every part of our lives.
Resulting in love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control.
Let us agree not to be drunk with wine, controlled by any other substance or anything that does not honor our Heavenly Father.
But manifest daily the grace of the Lord Jesus, the love of God and the fellowship of the Holy Ghost in our lives.
A WORD OF PRAYER
Heavenly Father, The spirit of man fails if we are not filled with the Holy Spirit. I pray that we submit to the leading and guidance of Your Spirit. So we may be filled and overflow in Your grace. Keep us away from anything that discredits Your name. May we continue to be led in the path of righteousness.
In Jesus name we pray, Amen
