The Best is Yet to Come: Wonderful Mind Change

Today’s Reading: Colossians 3:1-5

Today’s Verse: Set your affection on things above, not on things on the earth. Colossians 3:2 KJV

Every person has their own way of thinking about things. We each have our own desires.

Earthly possessions being at the top of the list. We must not let material things govern our lives.

Forgetting that the Lord has told us, “For we brought nothing into this world, and it is certain we can carry nothing out” (1 Timothy 6:7 KJV).

We came into this life with nothing. We will leave with nothing.

In today’s passage, the Apostle Paul is telling believers to “Set your affection on things above, not on things on the earth” (Colossians 3:2 KJV).

They were to focus on their spiritual goals. All the things God had in store for them. They were not to focus on temporary, worldly concerns.

He encouraged them to seek a deeper relationship with God.

He told them to study the Scriptures.

This would help them understand that present challenges are temporary. That God had a larger plan in mind. A much better plan for them.

The same holds true for our lives.

As Christians it should be our desire to be “heavenly-minded.”

It does not mean we should neglect earthly duties. We are looking beyond what is currently happening. We see the full picture of what He has planned for our lives.

It means we have a desire to let nothing keep us from living a life according to the Word. We want all that God has prepared for us.

Our hearts and minds are focused on spiritual matters. On God’s eternal truths. Not on worldly concerns. Not on worldly possessions.

It involves living in obedience to God. To follow His teaching.

Each day we must take the time to renew our minds. To maintain a focus on Heavenly things.

We must be spiritually disciplined. To do things that will help in our spiritual growth.

We do it through prayer and reading the Scriptures. Meditating on the Word.

Deepening our relationship with the Lord. It leads to personal changes and godliness.

Christ lives in the believer by His Spirit. The Holy Spirit is present in all interactions. All our decisions. All the relationships we encounter.

We all should desire to let God’s ways influence our daily lives.

Giving Him thanks for all that He is doing in our lives.

Thanking Him for the wonderful blessings He still has for our lives.

A WORD OF PRAYER

Father, help us to focus on heavenly things rather than worldly concerns. Renew our minds. Give us Divine guidance. We know that through the power of Your Holy Spirit we can keep our minds on the things above. Not on the things of the earth. We want to focus on Your will. May we keep enough strength to place our trust or hope in You and not earthly things. Thank You for the new life we have in Christ.

In Jesus’ Name we pray, Amen
