The Best Teaching Ever Given About Powerful Prayer

Today’s Reading: Matthew 6:9-13

Today’s Verse: “After this manner therefore pray ye: Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name.” Matthew 6:9-13 KJV

We are encouraged to seek the Lord in prayer. He is always listening.

In this passage the Savior is speaking to His disciples and a surrounding crowd as part of the Sermon on the Mount.

He was instructing them on how they should pray. He gave them a model prayer.

It shifts focus away from attention-seeking and insincere public prayers. He tells them how it should be one of sincerity. It should focus on an intimate relationship with God as Father.

Jesus was guiding believers in worship. He told them to focus first on God’s glory and kingdom before personal needs.

He desires the same for all believers to this day.

He said the prayer is our guide.

He starts the prayer by saying, “Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name” (Matthew 6:9 KJV). We must speak to God as a personal, loving, and intimate Father. We must acknowledge His holiness. We must recognize His
supreme authority.

“Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven” (v. 10). This is our request that God’s reign, justice, and peace take hold on earth. No longer focusing on our selfish desires.

“Give us this day our daily bread” (v. 11). This is showing our dependence on God. We trust Him daily for our physical and spiritual needs. That we are not worrying about long-term trust in material things. We trust that He continually provides for us.

“And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors” (v. 12). There is a need for daily forgiveness. We must forgive others as God has forgiven us.

“And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen” (v. 13). This is our plea for spiritual protection. To gain the strength needed to resist temptation. To resist the influence of anything that goes against the Word.

Matthew 6:9-13 KJV, provides a detailed explanation of the need for daily prayer.

It is focusing on the teachings of Jesus. His teaching about prayer. It shows how important prayer is to a believer’s life.

Our need to acknowledge who God is.

We should always be thanking Him for His daily provisions.

We must continue to ask for forgiveness. To extend forgiveness to others. Asking for protection from anything that will try to make us go against the Word.

The Lord has given us a daily formula for living a godly life. He always wants the best for us.

May we maintain a strong prayer life. Letting our conversations with Him always be beneficial.

A WORD OF PRAYER

Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. Thank You Father for all that You are doing in our lives. We give You the
honor, the glory. and all the praise.

In Jesus Name We Pray, Amen
