When You Support, Watch the Greatest of Things Happen

Read: Exodus 17:8-16

But Moses’ hands were heavy; and they took a stone, and put it under him, and he sat thereon; and Aaron and Hur stayed up his hands, the one on the one side, and the other on the other side; and his hands were steady until the going down of the sun. Exodus 17:12 KJV

Any type of support is one that bears all or part of the weight of something.

It gives assistance and enables a person or thing to function or act.

To help them remain upright.

To help someone or something in an emotional or practical way.

The Bible reading today gives us a deeper look at what it means to support.

Moses knew that there was to be a fight with Amalek and instructed Joshua to choose the men he would take into battle with him.

Telling him he would stand on the top of the hill with the rod of God in his hand.

That he would be there to support them in this crucial battle (Exodus 17:9 KJV).

Joshua fought the battle and Moses prayed.

Both were ministering to Israel.

They were a great encouragement to the people.

But there is even more to the story.

Even Moses needed support.

His support came from Aaron and Hur.

They had to climb the same hill as Moses did.

This took time, strength, and commitment.

Moses’ hands began to become heavy and each time he lowered them the enemy started to win.

Aaron and Hur took a stone and put it under him to sit on.

They then stood, one on each side, and held Moses’ hands steady until the going down of the sun (Exodus 17:12 KJV).

Without their support Moses would not be able to keep his arms raised and the enemy would have defeated Joshua and his men.

This deserves special attention because there are many who serve behind the scenes.

They support a church, new believers, and does not have a problem standing with those who need someone by their side.

They are devoted to serving the Lord in supporting role.

Paul even recognized those who stood with him (Colossians 4:7-11 KJV).

A willing heart to make a sacrifice is the best way to be a support to one another.

Never feel that what you do for someone else goes unnoticed.

We will always need each other if we are going to fulfill all that the Father has called us to do.

Man may not acknowledge it.

But the Lord sees it all.

A WORD OF PRAYER

Father, we all desire to help in the ministry. To help another person to grow in faith. We know it takes the giving of ourselves. May we take the time, use our strength, and stay committed to doing Your will. We know the Savior made the ultimate sacrifice. And that our sacrifice will never be like His. But we will continue to give of ourselves. Thank You for showing us what it means to sacrifice and support one another.

In Jesus’ Name We Pray, Amen
