Today’s Reading: John 15:1-8
Today’s Verse: I am the vine, ye are the branches: He that abideth in me, and I in him, the same bringeth forth much fruit: for without me ye can do nothing. John 15:5 KJV
Spiritually, a vineyard represents the Kingdom of God.
It represents His relationship with His people. As a source of life and fruitfulness.
In this passage, John is making a direct comparison between a vine and branches.
Jesus is the vine. We are His branches.
It tells how we need to remain connected to Him. A connection that bears spiritual fruit. A fruit that allows us to live a life of purpose.
He explains that believers must remain in close spiritual relationship with Jesus. We must “abide” in Him.
It is the only way to bear spiritual fruit. To be spiritually fruitful.
He was explaining that Jesus is the Divine source. He is the strength for all followers.
As believers we are the branches. We must stay connected to Jesus. Through Him we receive life. We produce fruit.
We must maintain a close relationship with Him. We do it through trust. We show confidence in Him. We depend on Him.
This leads to spiritual fruit. This shows we have a genuine relationship with Him. A sign of spiritual growth. A sign of fruitfulness.
Without a true connection to Jesus, we are not capable of accomplishing anything on our own.
We find by experience that any interruption in the exercise of our faith will cause us problems.
Jesus Christ is the Vine. The true Vine. The Vine that gives life.
Those who abide not in Christ, though they may flourish for a while in outward profession, it will come to nothing.
We must honor God and do good. This is bearing fruit. The unfruitful are taken away.
Let us seek to live more in the fulness of Christ. To grow more fruitful in every good word. To grow more fruitful in every good work. We want our joy in Him. We want His salvation to be full in our lives.
We are blessed to be a blessing.
A WORD OF PRAYER
Savior, You are the Vine. We are the branches. The more we stay connected to You we grow in wisdom. We ask for the grace to remain in You. To remain in Your Word. For allowing fruitfulness. For a life that brings glory to You. We are staying connected. We want to bear much fruit. May our lives bring glory. Apart from You we can do nothing. Thank You Lord.
In Jesus’ Name we pray, Amen
