For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God. Romans 8:14 KJV
Although both my parents are no longer with me, I will always be known as their daughter.
The same holds true regarding my Heavenly Father.
At an early age, I knew I was adopted by Him.
That I was His child.
That I would always be His child.
In this passage, the Apostle Paul was speaking to the people in a Roman Church.
He desired that they would have an understanding that their identity was because of their being adopted members of God’s family (v.15).
He wanted them to understand that they had been born of the Spirit (v.14).
That they no longer had to find themselves caught up in things that didn’t really matter.
Not to live after the flesh (v.13).
Not to do those things that caused them to sin.
That through the gift of the Spirit, they were “heirs of God and co-heirs with Christ” (v.17).
The same holds true for those of us who follow Christ.
When we identify ourselves as a child of God, we come to see how much it is our duty to walk, not after the flesh, but after the Spirit.
We are to no longer live in an ungodly manner, for we will perish in our sins.
By the Spirit, we put sin to death.
No longer being caught up in things that have no value in our lives.
Remembering that through the gift of the Spirit, we are “heirs of God and co-heirs with Christ” (v.17).
Let us take the time to think about what it really means to follow God as His child.
We have a lot to be thankful for.
A WORD OF PRAYER
Father God, we know that our identity is always associated with who our parents are. That they see the family resemblance. That is why we are thankful that by the Spirit of adoption we have become one of Your children. An adoption that was the best thing that could have ever happened to us. Making us Your heirs and joint heirs with Christ. That when others look at us, they know that we are Your children. That You are leading and guiding us. We are better than blessed. Thank You for taking us into Your family.
In Jesus Name We Pray, Amen
