Times Not Speaking Is Good

Read: Nehemiah 4:1-9

Hear, O our God; for we are despised: and turn their reproach upon their own head, and give them for a prey in the land of captivity. Nehemiah 4:4 KJV

When we were young, there was someone that looked down on us with disrespect.

They knew we had something in us and didn’t want us to build on it.

It may still be occurring in our lives right now.

They continue to talk and try to bring others down.

To treat others with contempt and disrespect.

It takes a lot for us to maintain and not want to fight back, physically, and verbally.

The King of Persia had commissioned Nehemiah to rebuild the wall of Jerusalem.

It is not uncommon for something that is for our good to be looked upon with contempt.

It is usually coming from those who are proud and express it by the remarks they make.

They don’t want to see anyone achieving their goals.

So much so, that they would do anything they can to see that it doesn’t happen.

That is what the officials of the neighboring people in Jerusalem were doing.

They had problems with the fact that the wall of Jerusalem was being rebuilt.

A group of them united in efforts to drive Nehemiah and the workers away.

They harassed them and continued to ask them what they were doing.

Making remarks that the wall would be so weak even a fox could jump on it and make it collapse (vv.2-3).

They were doing it because they hoped it would cause them to stop building the wall.

Nehemiah did not partake of this foolishness.

He didn’t entertain anything that they were saying.

Instead, he looked up to God in prayer.

Knowing that God would handle it.

The same holds true for us.

We are not to partake in the foolishness.

We are to look to God in prayer.

Our comfort comes in knowing that the Father hears all the insults.

He sees the bad treatments and disrespect His followers face.

No longer worrying about it because we know He is taking care of it.

We just need to leave the matter in His hands and go back to doing our work.

A WORD OF PRAYER

Father, when someone is harassing and disrespecting us let us be like Nehemiah. Let us pray and give it to You. We know You will take care of it. When we are done giving it to You, we will go back to living, Following You and doing things according to the Word.

In Jesus Name We Pray, Amen
