The Meekness of Wisdom

Read: James 3:13-18

Who is a wise man and endued with knowledge among you? let him shew out of a good conversation his works with meekness of wisdom. James 3:13 KJV

Misunderstandings are a part of life.

They cause tension and arguments that sometimes get out of control.

Both sides speak in anger.

This can be avoided.

The persons involved must show the “meekness of wisdom” referred to in this passage.

Some feel the louder they speak means they are stronger they are.

That it will help to win the argument.

But it really causes more tension.

In this passage, James was not calling for weakness.

He was not saying that we should be afraid to act on what we feel.

That we should not express our opinions.

He is saying that we can have good conversations.

That the tone in our voice has an impact on the conversation.

Meekness is the Greek word, praus.

It means gentle.

A positive moral quality of dealing with people in a kind manner.

That is what James is telling us.

We can conduct our conversations with pure motives.

That it is easy to do.

It can be done by, listening carefully, thinking honestly, and responding gently.

If Christians would demonstrate meekness, so many arguments could be avoided.

It can’t be done on our own.

We should all be asking the Lord to help us.

Help us to show by our conduct that we practice the “meekness of wisdom.”

Our strength in any situation is shown when we control how we respond.

Many hurt feelings prevented, and arguments avoided.

A WORD OF PRAYER

Lord, there are times in our lives when there is so much confusion and times of anger. Times when we pray that the purity, peace, gentleness, teachableness, and mercy be shown in all our actions. That the fruits of righteousness abound in our lives. Showing that You have bestowed upon us this excellent gift of meekness. A gift that allows us to conduct and practice “the meekness of wisdom.” Knowing that only good unfolds when we do this. Thank You Savior.

In Jesus Name We Pray, Amen
