It was not uncommon in those days for a Shepard to have a rod at hand when tending his sheep and as a form of protection.
When God asked Moses this question, the answer was obvious. But he would soon find that this ordinary shepherd’s rod was to be used as a symbol of power and authority to free Israel from bondage.
God was giving Moses the power to work miracles.
The same holds true for us. The Lord has given us possessions and talents. He wants us to use them to accomplish His Will. No talent is too small when living by the Word and answering the call.
We were chosen to deliver God’s messages to all men. We don’t need the power to work miracles: our character and our beliefs are to be tried by the Word of God to whom we pray.
No matter our abilities we should be eager to serve.
Today, the Savior is asking each of us, “What is that in your hand.” Are we willing to use what He has given us for His glory?
A WORD OF PRAYER
Lord, May we rise to do Your will, knowing that You will be with us and prosper us. If Israel welcomed the tidings of their deliverance, and worshipped You, we welcome the glad tidings of redemption, embrace it in faith, and adore You, our Redeemer. None of our talents are small. Through faith we can help and encourage others.
In Jesus Name We Pray, Amen
