He shall not cry, nor lift up, nor cause his voice to be heard in the street. A bruised reed shall he not break, and the smoking flax shall he not quench: he shall bring forth judgment unto truth.
Isaiah 42:2-3 KJV
When I lived up North, in the Winter months we would be watching the news about the weather.
Reports that let us know if it would be snowing during the night.
What we might need to prepare for.
There were many nights when a great amount of snow was in the forecast.
But it wasn’t as bad as it seemed.
In the morning, we would awaken to a wonderful scene.
A neighborhood blanketed in a beautiful covering of snow.
The scene was so peaceful and quieting.
Although it was cold, it was much better than awakening to a thunderstorm.
Just like we have forecasts about the upcoming weather, Jesus’ coming was foretold.
The Prophet Isaiah gave an indication of this future event.
How peaceful and quieting it would be.
He had prophesied that the coming Savior would “not shout or cry out” (Isaiah 42:2).
Nor would He come in power that might break a damaged reed or extinguish a struggling flame (v.3).
The prophet was telling us that the Lord could have come into the earth like a storm, but instead He would be coming quietly and slowly.
That He would come gently.
Gently to draw all of us to Him with the offer of peace with God.
And the Lord did.
He came quietly and slowly like quiet, beautiful snowfall.
Born in a manger in Bethlehem (Luke 2:7).
He came peacefully.
He could have been attended by royalty and government officials, but he wasn’t.
He was welcomed by lowly shepherds (Luke 2:15,16).
We are blessed to have a Lord and Savior who could have come to us like a storm, but instead came to us quietly and peacefully.
A way to be well received.
To this day, it is a peace that is still afforded to anyone who believes.
Believe the forecast Isaiah gave us.
Read about and accept the Savior who was born in a manger.
A WORD OF PRAYER
Savior, in this season, no matter where we are, let us be thankful for all that You have done for us. Your willingness to give up Your majesty and come to earth in order to offer us peace. Thank You Savior.
In Jesus Name We Pray, Amen
