Knowing this, that the trying of your faith worketh patience. James 1:3 KJV
I was reading a devotional in which the writer was using a kite to give guidance on this passage.
The writer enjoyed flying the kite.
But wondered, “What if that kite could talk?”
At first, I wondered how that could have anything to do with what the Lord is trying to tell us.
He went on to say, the kite was flying gracefully, floating through the sky.
The kite felt it was doing it on its own despite the string that was being held by the boy below.
The kite felt it did not need that. That it was a handicap.
It was looking at the fact that it had a tail and broad wing.
Thinking that if the string were gone it would be possible to fly up to the moon.
We have all heard the term, “Be careful what you wish for.”
It so happened that the writer stated, that as a child, while flying the kite he would sometimes get distracted and let go of the string.
The kite would start to come wobbling down and become tangled in the branches of a tree.
What might the proud kite say then?
Something like this; “Well, well, the very thing that I thought was keeping me down was actually keeping me up.”
We can sometimes feel we have a string holding us down in our spiritual growth because of the trials we go through.
Our faith teaches us to be joyful under trouble.
That God sometimes allows things to happen.
They occur to brighten our graces and grant even brighter ones in Heaven.
But if God were to remove these challenging times our lives would become wobbly and weak just like it was for the kite.
Those are the times we need to remember this passage and what the Lord has said, “The trying of your faith worketh patience.”
He allows them because He desires to see His children soar to spiritual heights.
A WORD OF PRAYER
Father, when we truly learn the purpose of the trials we face, we will rise to new heights of blessings. That is why we should take care in our times of trials. Knowing that our patience and not our passions, is set to work in us. That when the work of our patience is complete, it will give us all that is necessary, and we will fly high in our Christian race and warfare.
In Jesus Name We Pray, Amen
