Obeying Through Faith

Read: Jeremiah 32:5-11 KJV

So Hanameel mine uncle’s son came to me in the court of the prison according to the word of the LORD, and said unto me, Buy my field, I pray thee, that is in Anathoth, which is in the country of Benjamin: for the right of inheritance is thine, and the redemption is thine; buy itfor thyself. Then I knew that this was the word of the LORD. And I bought the field of Hanameel my uncle’s son, that was in Anathoth, and weighed him the money, even seventeen shekels of silver. Jeremiah 32:8-9 KJV

There are times when we are successful at what we do.

We have a good reputation and a good income.

Then a sense that God is calling us to do something else in our lives and may think it sounds foolish.

In today’s reading, Jeremiah bought a piece of land from his cousin Hanamel.

This was during a time when Jerusalem was under siege.

Even though it had been prophesied that the city would fall, he purchased it.

Of course this didn’t make sense.

No one should want to buy property in a city that was about to be occupied by the enemy.

But God had told him to do it.

The Lord was using this moment to show the importance of His promise to Israel that they would again posses the land (v.15).

Sometimes things don’t make sense to us, but we still need to have the same willingness to obey the Lord.

When and if He gives us a command, our part will be to believe Him and carry it out.

All our circumstances may not be as dramatic as this.

For some it may seem pointless to be honest instead of deceitful or even to forgive someone instead of holding a grudge.

Whatever God calls us to do, we should strive to have the faith to obey.

A WORD OF PRAYER

Father, You know that at first our ability to obey sometimes seems hard. We need to keep the faith and remember that anything You ask of us is for our good. Making our lives full and free.

In Jesus Name We Pray, Amen
