Growing up when we did something wrong it was not uncommon for our parents to tell us, “You should be ashamed of yourself.”
It was a “wake-up” call.
It really made you think about what you had done.
The majority of the time, we confess that we were wrong, embarrassed and guilty of our actions.
We apologized and promised not to do it again.
The same holds true when any of us goes against God’s Word.
There are some that are not ashamed and will admit their sin and others that won’t.
The ones that won’t, will do that which is wrong and fail to admit it.
They are unembarrassed and find no guilt in what they have done.
Letting sin govern their lives and denying that they need God’s forgiveness.
In this text, Paul is telling Christians to make a sinning believer feel ashamed of their disorderly conduct.
We are to do this as a caring friend, not as an enemy.
One who is praying for them.
Praying they truly realize that what they are doing is wrong.
That the Lord’s forgiveness will be received, when they confess their sin and turn away from it completely.
That when we confess our sins, the Lord is faithful and just to forgive us. (1 John 1:9)
Restoring our fellowship with God and the other saints around us.
A WORD OF PRAYER
Lord, if we have any reason to feel ashamed today, let us confess it and ask for forgiveness. Our fellowship with You is what we desire. Thank You for the chance to remove all reasons for shame.
In Jesus Name We Pray, Amen
