Don’t Throw Stones

So when they continued asking him, he lifted up himself, and said unto them, He that is without sin among you, let him first cast a stone at her. John 8:7 KJV

Our thoughts can be just as damaging as our actions.

It is not hard for someone to feel no sympathy for those who have done something wrong in their life.

That is, until they find themselves in the same or similar situation.

Before we sit in judgement, there should be compassion and a greater understanding of Christ’s Words: “He that is without sin among you, let him first cast a stone” (John 8:7).

Jesus was teaching in the temple courts when He said this.

There was a group of teachers of the law and Pharisees who had dragged a woman caught in adultery before Him.

They challenged the Savior by stating, “Now Moses in the law commanded us, that such should be stoned: but what sayest thou? (V.5)

They were trying to trap Jesus with this question.

All because they considered Him a threat to their authority.

They wanted to get rid of Jesus.

But when Jesus replied, “He that is without sin among you, let him first cast a stone at her,” not one of her accusers could bring themselves to pick up a stone.

One by one they walked away.

They knew they were guilty of something themselves.

Her accusers were gone and instead of condemning the woman, Jesus talked to her and showed her, just like He does with us, grace and hope.

He told the woman regarding the situation: “Neither do I condemn thee: go, and sin no more” (John 8:10-11).

Before we sit in judgment of anyone else, let us remember, “For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God” (Romans 3:23).

We are all striving to do things right.

Putting the lesson of John 8 into action in how we treat others is one way to start.

A WORD OF PRAYER

Lord, let us put into action the lesson of John 8 in how we treat others. Our experiences may differ, but we can still help others based on what we have gone through. Thank You for loving us and helping us to look with compassion on others. Being gracious in all we say and do.

In Jesus Name We Pray, Amen
