To avenge is to punish a wrongdoing with the intent of seeing justice done.
It is usually done to inflict harm in return for an injury or a wrong done to oneself or another.
It can also be to inflict harm on behalf of someone else previously injured, wronged or harmed and was just acknowledged.
It is done to get satisfaction for the wrong by punishing the wrongdoer.
The Lord warns us against having the desire to inflict a punishment or penalty for an injury or a wrong done to ourselves or anyone we know.
The Lord desires for us to put our faith in Him.
To peacefully conduct ourselves towards all men. To act with patience and self-control, restraint and tolerance.
It is hard to do, because it is human nature to want to get back at someone who has done us wrong.
Holding a grudge or seeking vengeance stops being what we desire when we realize how much we are playing into the hands of the devil instead of glorifying the Lord.
Give wrath it’s proper place. Vengeance belongs to the Lord. He takes care of it all.
We have so much to gain by letting it all go, extending forgiveness and glorifying God for handling it all.
A WORD OF PRAYER
Lord, it is not easily understood by the world, that in all strife and contention, that revenge is conquered when we learn to forgive and let You and the Father avenge us. That we are the conquerors when we do this. That we overcome evil with Good. May we all learn how to defeat the designs the devil tries to form against us. Letting them be changed to preserve our peace. We are the children of God and there is nothing that our Father would not do to protect us.
In Jesus Name We Pray, Amen
